Guest post: Is it a zentangle?

A guest this week; Maria Vennekens, CZT from the Netherlands. Maria came up with a not very easy challenge: “Can you make a zentangles without tangles or tangleations and how did you experience doing that?”

It was not clear to me if we were supposed to use a string or not. I decided to use one.
Well, it was not very easy to make other forms (especially 'invent' them), so I filled pieces with stripes. I did not really like doing this, I miss the tangles and was constantly thinking, so there was not only no tangle but also no 'zen'.

Thank you Laura and Maria, this challenge showed me that I did not chose Zentangle for no reason.

If you will be so kind to add a comment (positive criticism is also very welcome), then please do.

Ook string 019 gemaakt deze week:
This week I also drew string 019:
Have a great week and take care,

  2. Both are lovely, your first has a wonderful feel to it. I think you've come up with new tangles :) The second is beautiful and flowing, tangle away!

  3. Both of these are lovely. I, too, had a bit of difficulty with this challenge, so I understand your missing the "zen" part of it. Love your interesting little wormies poking out at the top right. :)

  4. I'm not so thrilled with this challenge either, but I think you got a better handle on it than I did. I'm with you, no Zen.

  5. Your Challenge tile is very original. It has an Indian or primitive look to it. I like it. I think you captured the essence of this week's challenge. Great job! Also like your other tile. : )

  6. I think you did a great job! I often do the zentangle challenges just doing my own doodles. I find that more zen for me because it's easier than trying to duplicate the complicated zentangles. Everybody is different, right? :)

  7. What an amazing journey for pen and paper...lovely!

  8. I can definitely see the second tile has more flow ... maybe that is what the "Zen" gives you :)

  9. This was a difficult challenge for sure, but you have done an admirable job! I like your "folky" suns.

  10. I sat and sat and think what to do!! This was difficult challenge but it was very importat because now I notice how much I like zentangle patterns.

You draw beautiful picture but Your zentangles are finer, I like them very much.

  11. Such a difficult challenge this week and we should all be saying "bring back our tangles". You have done a great job this week Annemarie and I think I see some worms in the top left.

  13. Super job on the challenge - very tribal looking.

  15. I too missed the "zen" part of this challenge. I think one of the things we can take away is the value of the established repeated patterns. Without paatterns you only (or at least for me) get zen when you are stepping out a new pattern you just figured out without zen, lol! Your tile, actually both of them, are lovely.

    efie-tangle":)

  17. I like the contrast of black and white that you achieved on this tile. I was a hard challenge for me, as I found that I had to think to much! :)

  18. i love them both - they remind me of Dr. Seuss and his amazing illustrations!
